Whangarei Boys' High School

Whangarei Boys' High School

OPEN LETTER TO THE WHANGAREI BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL COMMUNITY – 1/6/26

Kia Ora All,

On March 19, the WBHS Business & Finance Manager informed me that the school has contracted an exclusive uniform supplier. As a result, my goods and services are no longer required.

I am not sure of the procurement process as I was not approached, given an opportunity to respond or tender for it. I am sure the school will present its transparent process to you all, of how it came to this decision.

Bethells Uniforms has been supplying the WBHS uniform for over 40 years so for the relationship to end so abruptly is something I will ponder on for a while. I find it ironic the vision and values that WBHS expects of its students to be a stark contrast to the way this has been handled.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank past and present whanau who have supported my business over the course of 27 years. It is difficult to believe that a local school no longer supports the idea of a local business delivering its goods and services. This local business owner lives within our community. This local business employs local people, uses local suppliers, contributes to the local economy, and has the very best interests of our local individuals and groups at heart.

To WBHS Management and Board of Trustees. My door is aways open.

To all our WBHS students. You are extraordinary. You are awesome.

Nga mihi nui
Michelle
